Evidence record / codex
A dated record of one change, kept so the writing that cites it can be checked. Compiled from the sources listed below by the research run, not written for reading. The judgment lives in the issues that cite it, below.
2026-10-24-codex-managed-installations-and-logs-gain-automatic-disk-cleanup
Managed installations and logs gain automatic disk cleanup. The release prunes old managed installations and marketplace cache material and bounds managed app-server/updater stderr logs, adding native maintenance for state that accumulates during repeated updates and long-running use. The managed logger can drop oversized or queued-out records and trims files above 1 MiB to a 256 KiB tail; this is not a transcript-retention guarantee or a measured desktop disk reduction.
Channel: tagged-release. Half: both. Date: 2026-10-23.
Operator consequence: Inspect retained versions and log retention on 0.164.0 before keeping external cleanup jobs. Export evidence that needs longer retention to a controlled destination. Less janitorial work is useful, but bounded local logs change what a later incident review can recover.
